Professional Procrastinator

Are you a person who waits until the last minute to get things done? If so, you are a member of a club that adds new members everyday—professional procrastinators.

There were always kids in school that waited until the last minute to finish a big project, study for a huge test, and even to wake up in the morning to be on time for school. Let’s fast forward to adulthood. These habits if instilled early will stick with you and impact your future.

We all know too well how it feels to barely get something done. Why do you wait until the last minute? Maybe the task is overwhelming and the thought of simply beginning is daunting. At the root of this mental stronghold is the need for things to be perfect.

You want your family, your relationships, your work, your social life, your church life, and your spiritual life to all work out perfectly. The reality is none of it ever will. You are promised though that in all things God works together with those who love Him to make it all good.

Things may not feel good at certain moments, but even when you can’t see it He is working on your behalf and benefit. Procrastination does not help you live your best life. Putting off until tomorrow what you should do today only makes more work tomorrow.

More work means more stress and a bunch of other negative thoughts and emotions. You begin to live in fear of what tomorrow will hold. This isn’t the life God has promised to you.

If a farmer always waited for perfect weather to plant a crop, we would never have any fresh produce. If they did plant and waited for perfect conditions to reap the harvest, some of the produce might be lost.

It’s important to live like the farmer. They understand their work and effort is not for them alone. Your life and living out God’s purpose for you is for your benefit, but it also has an impact on the lives of others.

Think about all of those who wouldn’t know God’s love, grace, and mercy if you didn’t show them who He is by the way you live. How is your life reflecting God’s goodness to those around you?
