Who's to Blame?

Have you ever felt bad about something you did or maybe didn’t do? Just like Paul in Romans 7, we want to do what we should, but because we are sinful creatures we are drawn to what we want instead of what God wants for us sometimes.

But there is good news! When you choose to commit your life to Christ, there is no condemnation because He has removed any guilt and blame for everything you have done and will ever do—as far away as the east is to the west.

So if He doesn’t blame or point fingers at you for all of your wrongs, then why do you feel guilt and shame in your life? The devil is a tricky and foul deceiver.

He cannot lay a finger on you, but he sure can mess with your mind. He will do everything he can to convince you that how you’re living isn’t good enough and that your worthless. This condemnation cannot have influence in your life if you choose to not receive it.

The problem is that we often do. You have probably heard people in your life from time to time tell you condescending words or target unkind names in your direction. There is only one way to combat these lies.

Jesus! The Word of God stands true—always—and the devil cannot stand the sound of you quoting it or praising Him in spite of all that's going on in your life. Now that you can combat the lies there is something else we need to talk about.

Conviction is not the same as condemnation. God will never condemn you, but the Holy Spirit can convict you. When you are in Christ, His Spirit lives inside of you. The Spirit is there to help you.

As such, sometimes you will feel convicted because He is trying to convince you and help you realize when something you’ve done is wrong. He isn’t there to point the finger of blame, but to offer reassurance as you grow to love God more and become more like Christ.

So every time you feel blame and guilt, take it in prayer to God. He will never yell at you, but He will be there with open arms to help you and direct you in the way you should go.

Knowing now that condemnation is not from God, what can you do to stop the these lies from coming into your thoughts and infiltrating you life?
