Planting Seeds

Have you ever planted a garden? It can take some time to get the ground right, know how much to water it, and actually see the fruits of your labor.

Planting spiritual seeds is similar to planting flowers and vegetables. Jesus often spoke to large and diverse groups of people.

He told many parables, or illustrative stories, to get His point across. One parable was that of the sower.

In this parable, the sower sowed many seeds. Some of them fell on rocky soil and they couldn’t take root. Some fell in the thorns and wanted to take root, but were quickly killed. Others fell on good soil, grew, and multiplied.

Everyone interprets what they hear differently so knowing each person is at a different place in their spiritual journey means some are not yet at a place where the seed being sown in them will take root at that time.

This doesn’t mean you are to stop planting seeds. Plant as many “seeds” into everyone you meet as you can by telling and showing them the love of Jesus. Tell them what God has done for you and show them His love and grace with the way you live.

It may take years for it to even begin to grow, but once that seed takes root and sprouts, the person you have been talking to about Jesus will finally see that He is all they need.

Just like Jesus, you are to scatter your seeds far and wide. Not every one of them will grow immediately, but keep praying for all of them you plant.

God created plants so they would not only grow, but produce more growth. Every seed you plant that eventually takes root in a heart changed by God will then go on to sow more seeds—His love and peace will spread like wildfire!

How are you sowing seeds about Jesus in those around you and praying for them to take root? Who are you praying for to hear and believe the Good News of Jesus?
