According to many cultures, your name has a lot to say about you. Many parents struggle to find the perfect names for their little blessings and some even wait until they’re born saying they will know the right name when they see him/her for the first time.
We even stereotype people with certain names because everyone we know with “that name” is a troublemaker or is the most talented.
What about the name believers of Christ are given? To be named a Christian can have a positive or a negative connotation based on who says it and why.
Some try to be Christians by name only and have believed in Christ, but they aren’t living their lives to glorify Him. Others who are fully-devoted followers can be called some pretty mean names based on their all-in-for-Christ mantra.
The name of Christian is one you should be willing to wear with courage and pride. It is given to one who knows God is God and they are not. His name is above all other names and it is an honor to be named after Christ.
Living a life that reflects the character of Christ is one of sacrifice, love, and striving to always want to know God more.
So do not be ashamed or feel disgraced when people poke fun or do not understand your allegiance to Him. Instead pray for them and pray that God will use you to reach them for His glory.
