Everyone has specific responsibilities on a daily basis. But if you are to live with a servant’s heart, you must be willing to voluntarily do more than what is expected of you.
Job titles and roles in your life are only that. Don’t let what you are defined as in your life—parent, spouse, manager, student, etc—restrict you.
Look at the twelve disciples. Some were fisherman, tax collectors, doctors, and so many other things. Then when Jesus called them, they became so much more.
They didn’t abandon what they had been doing. God just enhanced their abilities to have an impact for His Kingdom.
Jesus handpicked these men, but they ultimately had to have a willing, servant’s heart to fulfill God’s purpose. They didn’t know what all would be asked of them when they chose to follow Him, but they were willing to go with Him in faith.
What’s most important isn’t who plants seeds about Jesus in the lives of others and who waters those seeds over their lifetime. What matters most is that the seeds that are planted and watered are grown in the hearts of men by God.
Only He can change your heart and your life. You can teach others about God not just in the words you speak, but in the things you do.
So when you step out from what is asked of you to do what “isn’t your job,” you show others God’s love. You show them other people matter more than yourself and you’re willing to go the extra mile to help with whatever needs to be done.
You and I need to help others know what it means to love God and live for Him by our example. It’s up to God to work in their hearts and lives to cultivate the seeds that have been watered and planted by you and I.
How have you seen God grow in someone’s life where you helped to plant and water seeds about Him?
