The idea of pleasing someone often has a bad connotation. When you think about pleasing a person it usually means earning their acceptance and praise. It’s a continuous striving to be all that someone else deems as acceptable.
It is impossible to please someone all the time. We all place expectations on others and even if we let them know what we expect from them, there are always unspoken things we hope they will do or not do.
The unspoken creates a gap between what is and what can be. When it comes to God, some feel they can never live up to the person He wants them to be so they don’t even try.
But God doesn’t have unspoken expectations. Everything He desires for us is laid out in the pages of His Word. Because of the culture we live in, people want to become the best they can be and then accept Christ.
Based on this thinking, the idea is to accept Him when you’re in the “right place” so you won’t face rejection. God never rejects anyone and always meets you where you are.
He doesn’t want you to be perfect. He wants your heart. He cares more about who you are than what you do. Don’t misunderstand though. The Bible teaches us right and wrong, but He is there to hear you when you call and offer forgiveness when you’ve not done things right.
In the same way, our acceptance of Christ allow us to have faith in who He is. Our faith isn’t in what He can and has done for us. We have faith in Him because of His character and the promises He continues to keep with us every single day.
Nothing you could ever do would change His love for you. Spend time with Him in prayer and through reading His Word. You will begin to understand and know Him more. This has the power to change who you are.
Without faith it is impossible to please God, but with faith He is pleased—just because we are spending time with Him and are trying to live like Him. Believe He exists, accept His Son Jesus, and He will reward you if you sincerely continue to seek after all He is.
Be genuine and true with Him for no other reason than He is always real with you. Have you been holding back from God because you didn’t believe He would accept you as you are? Pray and spend time in His Word and He will show you that you’re where you are and who you are because of exactly how He made you.
