How often do you spend time for you, to rest and relax from the daily dealings of life? Many of us, especially with families, don’t take much time if any for yourself because so many things and people demand your attention.
This can actually do more damage than good. In order to be who those around you need you to be, you must first be full. You can’t pour from an empty cup. You must take time to rest, renew, and rejuvenate.
Even Jesus took time sometimes to be alone and to pray, allowing God to fill Him back up. He knew He couldn’t be everything and do everything for everyone who needed Him if He didn’t let God renew His mind and strength on a daily basis.
You may wonder why Jesus even needed to rest since He was the Son of God. I remind you though as He was fully God, He was also fully Man. As He walked to earth just like you and me, He was experiencing life like us—He needed rest.
God knew how important it was to stop working, doing, and being and just rest. He didn’t create the world in seven days. He created it in six because after working hard He knew how important it was to stop and be still.
If you’re feeling tired, rundown, and just plain overwhelmed, try to incorporate a time of rest into your life. Be intentional about it as Jesus was every single day. You not only deserve it—you need it!
