It Takes Time

Many things we would like to see happen quickly, but the reality is things take time. You want to be out of a bad or painful situation, but where you find yourself didn’t happen overnight and it probably won’t be an instant fix.

In Joshua 6, we read the story of the Israelites coming up against the city of Jericho. They had traveled to the land God promised to them and as they approached Jericho, a great wall surrounded the city and the gates were barred. There appeared to be no way in to achieve a victory in battle because they couldn’t even get in.

God spoke to Joshua because of course He had a plan. Sometimes the battles you face are not yours to fight because God has already declared a victory. This was the case with Jericho.

They were to walk around the city once a day for six days and on the seventh day they were to do it seven times and then blow their trumpets and shout—declaring victory.

They did what God asked and Joshua told them. The walls of Jericho crumbled and the Israelites overtook the city. They didn’t get the victory because they shouted loud enough or because of their marching.

God gave them the victory because they obeyed what He told them. What God had asked didn’t make sense and they didn’t know why they couldn’t just fight a battle and win the victory themselves.

But it wasn’t their fight to fight. You can’t fight a battle that’s already been won. God declared they would have the city and they did because of their obedience.

Sometimes your victory is in sight as God is fighting to make it so. All you need to do is stand in faithful obedience and “march around the city” for awhile, believing the promises God has given you.

What battle are you declaring victory over in your life as God has already won the fight for you?
