Life is a race, but it’s not a sprint. It’s a marathon. Sometimes you’ll run faster than others and sometimes you’ll want to quit and throw in the towel.
One thing that does make the race more difficult is carrying extra weights that weigh you down and hinder your endurance. Sin in your life will do this for sure, but some relationships can do this as well.
Some relationships influence you to do things you know you shouldn’t or make you doubt your worth. The affects of these things slow you down and can even stop you for a little while.
Overcommitment is a syndrome that many fall prey to and it has the ability to keep you from the very things God wants you to do.
Having so many different people ask you to be a part of or the head of different groups and events can be a great thing for your ego. It makes you feel good to be wanted, but at what price?
You want every opportunity for your kids when it comes to sports and other activities that you may even overcommit them. Wanting them to succeed is one thing, but running them from sun up to sundown is exhausting not just for them but for you too.
We need to learn that it’s okay to say no and it’s okay to say yes, but in saying each you must understand the affect of your answer.
Ask God to help you have a mindset for the things that further His name and His kingdom. Consult Him and ask if something is good thing to do or if you should say no and move on to something even greater that’s coming.
God is in the details, but sometimes when we provide a yes or no we tend to add too many details we don’t back up ourselves. As Christians we like to sound religious when we say, “I’ll pray for you” or “God be with you.”
Do you pray for others when you say you will? Do you really mean for God to be with someone in their time of trouble or need or is it something you say to let them know you care in some way?
Saying yes to God and no to sin is only the beginning of the race you run with Christ. What are you doing to keep your eyes on Him, saying yes to things that bring Him honor and saying no to some things that have no eternal impact?
