My Cup Runneth Over

You know it’s better to give than to receive. We even teach our kids this simple concept to try to help them become generous adults one day.

But many adults are hesitant to give, especially when they feel like they don’t have enough. It is understandable that sometimes circumstances, like the loss of a job or other financial hardship, happen.

What I have come to understand though is that God gives you enough for what you need at the moment you’re in, but it’s up to you how you steward it.

There are several parables and illustrations in the Bible that tell us about different people giving different amounts. You could have a lot and give God a little and you can have a little and give God all you have.

Even though most Christians are taught to give ten percent of their income back to God through the church so the church can continue to do the work God asks us to do, God looks at the heart of the giver and not just the amount.

The person I mentioned that has a lot and gives a little may not be giving as much as the one who has a little and gives all he has.

I’m not saying to give all your money away—unless that’s what you feel God is leading you to do. When you do give to God, you’re to do it with a willing and cheerful heart. It’s not supposed to feel like a chore or that you’re following through on a command He gave us.

So, if you give cheerfully to God knowing He will always take care of you, whatever you give will show you trust Him. It is declared if you do this whatever you give will be given back to you fully and abundantly.

Your faithfulness to God will allow your cup of grace to spill over and His love will affect all around you.

How has God blessed you abundantly in your life?
