Living Sacrifice

We often live our lives to survive with little thought of what it means to sacrifice for something greater than ourselves. Some choose careers where they live sacrificially each day for people they don’t even know—law enforcement, fireman, and soldiers to name a few.

Just because you don’t have a job in these fields doesn’t mean you don’t have an opportunity to put others first. Jesus said whoever wants to be first must be last. This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t win any races, but to be known for everything you do shouldn’t be your ultimate goal.

If you are anything like me, I am a planner. I like to be able to check things off when completed. Change isn't the easiest thing for me to adapt to. It has taken me some time to realize God’s distractions aren’t interruptions but opportunities to sacrifice what you want for what He wants for you. Your actions affect you, but they impact others as well.

If you feel an urge to go talk to someone, pray with someone, or change your plans to help someone you should do it. When someone pops into your head, it’s for a reason. Take the time to call or message them just to check in. To make these sacrifices of your time, appointments, and priorities may seem like a lot to ask of you.

The reality of living a sacrificial life isn’t that you will be known for what you do, but that you were willing to do whatever was needed for the good of those around you. Jesus lived this kind of life and as His followers we are supposed to follow suit.

In the end, all of those who accepted Christ and lived to see God’s will be done on earth as it is in heaven will be rewarded with eternity in heaven. “Well done,” He will say for you laid down your life for your neighbors, friends, and perfect strangers.

How are you sacrificing your time, schedules, and personal priorities for the opportunities God puts in front of you each day?
