Every Word

It is near impossible to find someone in this world that you can take at their word 100% of the time. On beautifully rare occasions you find someone who always speaks their mind and totally means what they say—what you see is what you get.

So many have hidden or personal agendas, even subliminally, it makes it hard to believe anything anymore. The lack of honesty and personal integrity have turned our culture into a people who are forever changing the moral lines to fit what they think is right.

In a world that is making and continuously shifting what is acceptable, where can you find a true moral compass based on real, unchanging truth? His Word is unchanging—the same yesterday, today, and forever.

The Bible is the Word of God. It says that in the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God (John 1:1). God has always been around. He is the Creator of the universe, our world, the land and sea, all the animals, and you and me.

In the beginning, Adam and Eve were created and with them a moral standard began. Obedience to the truth was key. They broke trust with God because of their disobedience in the Garden. In the Bible we read that overtime, they too dealt with murder, injustice, pain, and loss, but they also experienced joy, peace, love, hope, and above all grace.

Reading His word trains and equips you to be more like Jesus and to get to know Him better. This is the whole point in committing your life to Christ—to become Christ-like in how you live and interact with others.

Just like when you take classes in school, take notes and highlight when you read the Bible. Journal about verses and thoughts that come into your head after reading. Continue to research things you have questions about by reading other things that fall in line with the Word of God so you gain a deeper insight.

Above all, pray for the Holy Spirit to make the Scriptures come alive on the page right in front of you. That’s what makes a good story right? When you can feel it and can relate, it gets personal. The only way to keep your moral compass pointing you in the right direction is to make sure you always have God set as true north.

Through His word, He is equipping you for every good thing He has planned for your life. Your continued obedience to Him and His will is crucial and allows you to be able to “hear” Him more. Want to know what He wants to do through you? Read His word and be open to His leading and nudges throughout your day.

There is no way you can understand what is right and wrong on your own, based on the true morality that God enacted from the beginning of time. How consistent are you with diving into the Bible on a regular basis and how do you see that affecting what you believe is right and wrong?
