Being a leader isn’t something you do, but something you are. The leader you are tells others where your direction comes from.
There are some who lead to be known. These types of leaders will do anything to gain a following even if means standing with the popular vote instead of what is right. Their main motivation is purely external because of what they do with their power and what they can get from it.
Then there are leaders who lead from a place of love and generosity. These types of leaders draw their power from an outside source. Jesus is the source of everything you need to lead—love, grace, mercy, peace, understanding, and so much more.
This type of leadership is internal and helps you strive to be better not based on how it benefits you personally, but how it will benefit those you lead and point them back to the One who leads you.
No matter what you do in life, your main thoughts should not be “What can I do to benefit me?” Instead, think about what you can do to benefit “we.” We are all in this life together and God made us to love one another as He loves us.
God has qualified you to lead in some way. Don’t get me wrong, not everyone is meant to be the head of a billion dollar company. Leadership begins with your relationships and within your own home.
It’s important to always strive for more and allow God to use you through His call on your life, but make sure your life achievements are not where you base your success. The glory is to go to God so that no man can boast.
Christ chose to die for you. Your accomplishments are not because of anything you have done but instead because of what you’ve allowed Him to do through you.
When this pandemic hit, everything became uncertain—health, jobs, schools, basic necessities. People banded together to help in whatever way they could so that those around them would be taken care of. This is leadership in action. This is God in action.
Now that we joke about being in day 2,000+ of quarantine and isolation, how is your drive to want to help others? Has His light on the inside of you grown so dim that you’re just scraping to get by on your own?
No matter how much or how little you have right now there is always something you can give to help others. Maybe it’s giving monetarily or of your time and maybe it’s something as simple as a smile or a kind letter to a front-line worker.
What can you do today to make a difference in someone’s life that will point all the glory back to the One who gives you strength in these uncertain times?
