Great Performances

Are you comfortable with who you are? Many of us are afraid to be ourselves because we fear rejection will hurt more than the acceptance of all our faults and imperfections.

You feel no one else could truly understand and no one has been through what you’re dealing with. This is a lie the devil wants you to believe so you will live inside your head, chained to what will hold you back.

Satan cannot physically harm you, but he sure can mess with your head. Because you start to believe the lies you’re hearing, you live each day trying to convince people you are someone you aren’t. The masks you wear for your daily performances portray characters you wish you were.

The truth is, your life is not meant to be a public performance. Hiding who you truly are from others and ultimately from God will not allow you to live your best life.

You can use all the props, material things, to give the best pretend performance that everyone applauds and wants to see, but it will never fill the empty space where only authenticity and transparency can complete you.

God doesn’t look at your outward appearance. He looks at your heart. Your actions don’t mean as much to Him as your motivation for doing them.

He wants you to live with a “pure heart” so you are living the same inside and out. Everyone loves a good performance, but there is nothing better than knowing the real you off stage.

I encourage you to let your guard down and let people in. This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t protect your heart and your spirit from the affects of harmful and toxic relationships. Pray for God to give you the discernment to know when to hold your friends tight and when to unfold them from your life.

When you stop performing and start living, it will give you freedom like you’ve never known. There are no outside expectations set up for you to fail. You won’t be living for the approval and false acceptance of others. Instead, let God be your guide for the life you’ve always wanted to live—one where no matter what, you’re welcomed for who you really are.

Do you feel you’re living with a pure heart or striving to keep up a great performance? What is stopping you from allowing others to see the authentic you?
