Self-worth

How do you see yourself? This is often a loaded question and you may not fully be able to answer it, but it’s where everything starts.

How you view yourself affects how you view others. Jesus says to love your neighbor (family, friends, community members, and so on)—even those you may not like—as yourself. If you do not think fondly of your own personal worth, I believe you will not be able to view others as having value either.

When God created Adam, He was with Him. But God saw that it wasn’t good for man to physically be alone. So that’s when He created Eve to be his companion and friend.

We all know what happened. They ate the fruit they weren’t supposed to eat and mankind was cursed by their sin forever. Until Christ lived and died on this earth and was resurrected by God, there was no way you could escape the eventual punishment of death for your sins.

Christ died for you. He died so that you could live and know who you are because of who He made you to be. He wants you to seek a humble life that is honest to yourself and true to who God is.

Some take self-worth in a different direction though. You could be so proud of yourself that everything you do must be seen and known by all. This kind of life is tiring.

Always trying to be what others will approve of isn’t going to happen. There will always be someone who is upset by something you say or do—it’s just how it is. You can’t please everyone 100% of the time.

The blessings in your life don’t come from the approval of others. Being content—happy, satisfied—with who you are doesn’t come from the outside. It starts from within. You can’t buy self-worth.

God has already paid for you by the blood of His Son, Jesus. This purchase set you free. You’re free from self-condemnation and from thinking negative thoughts about your situation.

This can be easier said than done, but God wants you to know that if you will trust Him, He has your back. This is a lifetime guarantee—a promise sealed with the blood of Jesus.

How do you see yourself on a daily basis? Do you see yourself as God sees you or do you view your worth from the eyes of the world?
