Have you ever wandered around your house searching for the source of an unidentifiable smell only to suddenly find it and wish you hadn’t? Wherever there is a stink, there is work to be done.
This also applies to our lives. You may not even be aware of certain “smells” in your life, but those around you may “smell” them. Character traits such as having a lack of integrity, lying, distrust, and being dishonest can send off a stench sometimes a mile away—alerting others to proceed with caution.
If someone has lived with these unattractive qualities for any length of time, they may not even realize they are behaving this way. They have become “nose blind” as a popular commercial so eloquently puts it. Are you living with some stinky habits yourself?
Ask God to help examine your heart and see if there is anything there that is not of Him. Only He can heal and cleanse a heart. The goal is to become more like Jesus. He went before you to experience all the pain and joy this life can hold so that in overcoming life, death, and the grave you too could be an overcomer.
The Word of God includes Scriptures for everything. Overwhelmed and discouraged? Know He is always with you and walks ahead of you to show you the way. It’s impossible to tell where the path of life will lead you, but Jesus already knows the way.
Let Him be your guide and set fear and all the negative feelings and character traits aside. Focus on Jesus. He has never failed and He won’t start any time soon so trusting Him is almost a no brainer.
You wouldn't go on a jungle hike or an African safari without a guide who knew the dangers and the paths to take. So why would you go on the journey of your life without Jesus—the Way? How have you been feeling lately? How often do you spend in God’s Word and in prayer?
