Weak to Be Strong

Many times we see physically or mentally tough people thought to be strong just crumble into a pile of weakness. Sure this can be seen in boxing and MMA fighting, but this can happen to you and me.

You try to live life on your own terms and to be strong for yourself and those around you. No matter who you are, there is always someone else dependent on your strength. But where does your strength come from?

If your answer is external—other people, the roles you fill, the accomplishments you achieve—your strength will never last. The only way to be strong is to realize you are weak.

I don’t mean this as a put down or an insult. There is strength in realizing your weaknesses. As much as we like to try and control what happens to us and around us, there is only so much you can do before someone sees you aren’t perfect and before you realize you can’t be strong on your own.

If you are a Christian, you have realized you aren’t in control and without God you will never be enough. Admitting you need help brings you what you need—advice, strength, guidance, and grace.

His power is made perfect in your moments of weakness because in allowing His strength and power to work in and flow through you, all eyes are drawn back to God. The goal is to not have all eyes on you but instead on Him.

Weakness is hard enough to come to terms with, but this verse in 2 Corinthians also says you’re to delight in insults, hardships, persecutions, and difficulties! This is a hefty list, but it all boils down to one thing.

In this world you will have trouble, you will never be perfect, and that’s okay. God is the author of perfection and only by abiding in Him can you be strong and endure all the things this life will throw at you.

How can you take comfort in knowing He is all the strength you need to make it through anything?
