Do you remember waking up as a kid from having a bad dream? To whom did you run?
I would run to my mom and she would take me back to bed and make sure I fell back asleep. Sometimes I wanted to talk about what had scared me and sometimes doing so made the nightmare seem real again.
As adults we still have nightmares from time to time, but the worst ones sometimes don’t come when you’re asleep. It may not be a bad dream while asleep, but an unpleasant reality while awake.
The overwhelming anxiety you feel either comes from things you have gone through, are going through, or fear that you will. Just like a loving parent, God is there to comfort you and help you back to a place of peace.
We are very limited in what we are capable of. As much as we want to run to people to be comforted, they can only do so much. I’m not saying you shouldn’t stay close to your community of people and go to them when you need something, but run to the Father.
God is always there and all He is isn’t limited. His love is unconditional and His peace is unlike any you can find on your own. He is mighty to save.
When you run to the Father, He rejoices over you because He loves you. He can guide you back to better thinking and through His understanding, not your own, He will guide you to the path of life by filling you with joy.
He is always with you and delights in you—no matter what you’ve done. God doesn’t define who you are by what you’ve done. He forgives what you’ve done and shows you who He’s created you to be.
That’s the mark of a true Father. What do you do when the nightmares of reality show their ugliness? To whom do you run?
