Authority and the Law

Have you ever talked to someone who was overly knowledgeable about a certain topic or skill? Back in Bible times this is exactly what the teachers of religious law were like.

They had all the knowledge of the laws Moses had received from God and also all the hundreds of laws imposed on the people that had been man made as a result of the original ten.

What they lacked was heart. They were so concerned with following the rules and living out the needed rituals that religion required, but even when Jesus was standing in front of them they didn’t realize it really was the Son of God.

When Jesus spoke to the people He spoke with the kind of authority that could really influence them to want to know who God is. He challenged and changed their thinking and things they had thought were true.

God is more concerned with having a personal relationship with you than He is about examining your life for mistakes. Jesus came to save the sick. Sin makes you sick and we are all born sinners because of the fall of Adam.

It wasn’t until Jesus came and gave His life that we even had a chance again at this kind of relationship. God loves you that much to send His only Son to earth to die for everyone to be forgiven from here until eternity.

Being a Christian isn’t about following religious rituals and saying all the right things. It’s about relationship—with God and with others.

God didn’t make man to be alone. Community is key. Be open to being influenced in every way possible by God’s authority—in thought and behavior. Have you been living as one who has been influenced by who God is?
