A long time ago, people offered sacrifices to appease the gods. Even people who followed God offered sacrifices to get back into right standing with Him or to thank Him for what He had done for them.
When Jesus came and died as a sacrifice for all of us, this changed everything. His one sinless, blameless act of love paid for your sins and mine because our sins should have condemned us to spiritually die with no hope of eternity with God.
From the beginning, God had a master plan as a master of the universe. When you accept Christ’s sacrifice you are leaving your old way of life and committing your life to Him.
Choosing Him over yourself means you are joining yourself with Jesus. Without faith in God it is impossible to please Him because your faith shows you trust Him.
As a follower of Christ, there are sacrifices you must make each day when you choose daily to continue following Him. When you think before you speak and before you do things, knowing sometimes you may not want to say or do things that God would like, you are choosing to live your life to honor Him for who He is.
Remember when you were younger and there were things you just would not do if you were somewhere with your parents? It’s a good rule of thumb to think about our Heavenly Father this way.
If you would not do something because Jesus was physically standing next to you then you probably shouldn’t do it. Jesus is not physically standing with us, but His Spirit dwells in us.
He is to be your guide and your helper through this life. If you live your life following the leading of His Spirit within you, you will live and adventurous and fulfilling life.
Your life may not always be perfect or what you thought it should be, but when you follow Him He will continue to watch out for you, be there for you, and provide for you—allowing you to have your best life in Him.
