They say pride always comes before a fall. Some confuse pride and confidence, but they aren’t the same thing.
Pride can be synonymous with conceit. It isn’t healthy to have an over-the-top appreciation for yourself over and above everything and everyone else.
Self love is important, but not if taken to an unhealthy level. When we concern ourselves with what we can get out of the world and how it all makes us feel, we neglect the real reason why we are even here.
You and I are here at this moment to make a difference in the lives of others and the world around us. We won’t be able to fulfill this God-given purpose if we are too concerned with ourselves.
God told us one of the greatest commandments is to love your neighbor as yourself. This is an act of humility to treat all humanity as children of God.
To see us all as equals and to treat one another as such would truly change the world. Humbleness has the ability to change the heart of even the most haughty person so they’ll want to live a sacrificial life.
Jesus is the most humble person to walk this earth. He valued Himself because of who God said He is and didn’t seek His affirmation through the approval and praise of others.
He taught us all by example what it means to love your neighbor. No one was off limits to God’s love, to mercy, or to being healed because of the condition of their body or their heart.
Humility does make you wise. Pride will always lead you astray. How have you handled pride and humility in your life?
