What Matters

Think about what is most important to you in life. Whatever you treasure is linked to your heart and out of your heart you act, think, and speak.

If a person is most important to you, then what they do or don’t do will affect you and how you treat others. If things are going well with them then things will go well in your other relationships. If you have a fight with that person or they are mad at you for some reason it will negatively affect how are you are with others.

If you link your security and safety to an item and that item becomes damaged or lost, you may have trouble trusting and fearing in your life. Think about a young child carrying their favorite stuffed animal or blankie. If something happens to that object, it feels like the world is going to end.

If you value your wealth over everything else you will tend to put your job and your time there above those who really need you. If you fully trust in God, He has and never will fail you. He will always make sure you have what you need.

On the day you stand before Him in heaven, the material things you held close, including your money, will hold no value. Righteous living is what really matters.

Living for something bigger than yourself matters. Jesus stood up for and helped the lowly, the less than, and the marginalized of society. We would be good to do the same.

Jesus knew there was life after death with the Father and Jesus also knew He was the way for others to get there. If no one can get to heaven to be with God without first accepting Christ, confessing their sin, and repenting, then Jesus definitely is the One to want to emulate while on this earth.

So I ask what really matters to you—material wealth or heavenly righteousness?
