As children we’ve all learned the phrase “It’s not fair.” Some injustices like racism and the denial of our unalienable rights can cause us to suffer for extended periods of time.
In the case of the child, or adult for that matter, who doesn’t get something they really wanted, the injustice will pass in a short time.
Injustice exists because of the broken world in which you and I live. Fairness is anything but common it seems. But what does justice look like?
You may have grown up with the understanding that justice is simply someone getting what they deserve—usually for doing wrong. Even though this is true, it’s not all that justice entails.
Justice can punish someone for doing something wrong, but it can also be used in the way of protecting people or caring for them.
God is a just God. Some of you may not believe this. I assure you it’s true! You will suffer injustice and unfair situations in this life because we live in a broken world.
But without God’s sacrifice of His only Son Jesus, His fair justice would have meant you being eternally damned because of your sin. Instead, He was just and sent His Son to live, die, and rise again so that if you put your faith in Jesus you will be justified before Him.
You are justified not by your own merits. You are justified and made right with God because of Jesus.
