We have all been around a child when they didn’t get what they wanted. No matter how well-behaved a child is, when they are passionate about something they will ultimately throw a fit when they don’t get it.
You and I do this sometimes as adults too. We don’t like being told we can’t have something or really desire to purchase something only to find our bank account doesn’t agree.
In our culture of more is more and the newer the better, it can be increasingly difficult to tune out the tune the world wants us to hear.
Hear me out. There is nothing wrong with getting new things or having nice things. The problem lies in why you wish to obtain them. If the point is just because you have a fear of missing out on the latest and greatest, your motivation may not justify your actions.
God wants us to desire Him above all else. His hope is that you will choose to honor Him in all areas of your life. Some people think it’s good to compartmentalize different parts of your life—work, family, church.
Living with this mindset makes it hard to overcome the fact that God wants to be a part of all you are and all you do—no exclusions. He is in the heart business and when you choose to put Him first, you have decided to open up everything to Him.
No doors in your life should be locked or kept hidden from God—even though He knows and sees it all. So when you bring your desires before God, make sure your motives are pure.
Your life is not your own. You have been reconciled back into a right relationship with God through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Pray to Him with all of your heart and without selfish desires. Then you will be given answers according to His will and they will also become the desires of your heart.
What are you praying about right now and waiting for God to answer? No matter what the answer is, He will give you what you need according to His perfect will.
