All we need is love as a very popular song reminds us. This world runs on many things, but how much different would it be if everything revolved around love and peace and not hate and continuous outrage?
We live in a society that is easily offended and says they value the opinions of others, but then tries to pick a fight with anyone who doesn’t agree with them.
How did we get to this point? God is love. So it may be safe to say if we are living with less love and more hate then we are living with less of God.
The word love is all over the Bible. God tells us to love Him, love others, love your neighbor as yourself, love your enemies, be love to the marginalized, lonely, and left behind. Be love to the unloved.
If God is love, the only way to have love emulate from us and affect others is to live so close to God that He affects all you do. When you accept Christ, who is the Son of God—God made flesh, His Holy Spirit comes to live in you.
There is no way then to live as a follower of Christ and to accept Him to lead your life and not be impacted by His love. It isn’t something He does, but is who He is. With the power of His Spirit inside of you, love will flow from you too.
If you and i are going to change this world and allow His love to flow through us, love can’t just be an abstract theory—an impersonal and detached hypothetical idea. God is a personal God. He is love and His love is then personal too.
Be intentional when it comes to loving people like Jesus. No action or deed is too small to let God’s love and light shine in the lives of those around you.
What can you do today to show God’s love to those near and dear and also far or unknown to you?
