He Will Be Called

Names have an impact on a person. When parents name their children they often associate certain names with people they have known, which either adds them to the list or definitely keeps them off of it.

People in the Bible are specifically named because of what their names mean. They believed this had an impact on the person they grew up to become. Sometimes God even changed someone’s name—Abram to Abraham, Sarai to Sarah, Saul to Paul, and several more.

God specifically chose Jesus’ name because of who He is and what He would mean to the world. It is an amazing act of the Holy Spirit to allow a woman to be pregnant when she has never been with a man.

As miraculous as this was, the bigger thing to focus on is who the baby was. Babies are born everyday, but only on was God’s own Son and the Savior of us all. Who He is—Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace—is more important than any of the other incredible details of His birth.

In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and was God. He has always existed, but not until the birth of Christ could He come down in human form and walk among us. God waited until just the right time to make a physical appearance into the world.

Coming to be among us as a little baby, He could not speak, but the whole story of His birth said enough. God with us is good news for us all. What does it mean to you that Jesus is our Wonderful Counselor and the Prince of Peace?
