The Right Lens

How you see the reality of your life depends on the lens you view it from. Sometimes we let one bad outcome set the stage for how other things will turn out before they even happen.

Remember back to when you were a teenager practicing for your driver’s test. If you’re normal, you made some mistakes along the way and perhaps those mistakes stuck in your mind to where you felt it wasn’t worth trying again to just make the same mistakes.

We all make mistakes and bad choices from time to time, but your reaction to them is crucial. If you succumb to them, you begin to live a life of learned helplessness. You believe that no matter what you do you are doomed to fail.

This thought process then leads you to believe you are a failure as a whole. Friends, all of us fall short. Instead of caving into a pit of despair, grasping for anything to save you, simply lift your head.

It’s amazing what you see when you look up instead of down. Lift your eyes to God. Learning to look to Him will give you a new perspective on life. It’s like putting on a pair of glasses and miraculously seeing the things around you clearly for the first time.

Looking to God and seeking Him for His wisdom and understanding allows you to look at things through His eyes. People will look different to you and you’ll begin to have compassion and empathy toward some you never really “saw” before.

Learning to step back in moments of craziness and really see the situation gives you the ability to see the choices you have when before you didn’t even know there were any.

Being in the world, you get sucked into the world and before you know it you’re making choices like a person of this world. The problem is, you are not from this world. We are all just passing through!

God asks you to set your mind on things above and not on earthly things. When you live with the mindset that you are here but for a moment and in eternity for the rest of your life, you will treat life more as an opportunity to make a difference for Him.

We are all given a specific purpose and living it out is how you live your best life. You can’t do this if the world becomes a distraction. Fix your eyes on Him and eternity with Him and everything you say and do will honor Him—pointing all you meet back to Jesus.

Through what kind of lens are you viewing the world? Are you living the reality of a victim of this world or an overcomer of it?
