Have you ever met someone who was seemingly good at everything? There was a girl in school growing up who was good at every sport she tried and everything artistic she ever attempted. For the rest of us, it was incredible to watch and at times a little frustrating.
But no matter how good she was at any one thing, there was nothing in which she showed mastery level work. You see, it can be easy to be “the Jack of all trades,” but in doing so you really become the master of none.
As a Christian, you are to reflect Christ to the world. God desires to see you find that one thing you do well and master it. If you never take the time, effort, and endurance to learn to do something with excellence you will only master mediocrity.
God doesn’t call you to be mediocre! He wants to see you live fully in Him. He created you in His image so that you would embody His character. How do you discern what God is calling you to focus on and do better than anything else?
Try doing a handful of things you enjoy and ask God to help reveal to you which one, if any of them, you could be great at. Lean into Him. Learning to be more like Him, you are equipped and empowered to show others His love, mercy, grace, patience, and loyalty all through remaining humble.
I guarantee when you are walking the path doing exactly what God wants you to do with your life, you’ll know. It will be His Spirit guiding you and perfecting you to be more like Him. You’ll do things you didn’t know you could that have outcomes greater than you ever thought possible.
How about you? Do you still feel like you’re playing the Jack of all trades or have you honed in on the one thing God wants you to do with excellence?
