We’ve all seen movies or television shows where someone has a safe room they can go to in case their safety is compromised. Maybe you’ve even had one yourself.
The idea is you are safe from anything that could harm you. But many people build walls and create a safe room around themselves after they make certain choices or something has happened to them.
Emotionally and physically closing yourself off from the contact of others seems like a good idea at the time to help you get over whatever is going on in your life.
The truth is, we are better together. You try to convince yourself you don’t need anyone. Even with the walls closing you in you try to make the space feel like home. No matter the level of comfort you feel, nothing good ever comes from hiding from others and especially not from God.
God is always with you so even as hard as you try to hide from Him, He always sees you. Jesus is the light of the world and if you allow Him to illuminate your way, He can help you break down the walls and finally be free.
Darkness will suffocate you and keep you captive, but light cannot be hidden in the darkness and brings everything into view. He is the only key that can bring you out of isolation.
However, knowing and accepting He is the key that can get you out of your safe room isn’t the same thing as allowing Him to be that key in your life. I can hold a key to my front door and know it opens the door, but I won’t get into the house unless I use it.
It takes courage to give to God what has built your walls, trusting He alone can penetrate them. There may be several layers to get to you and bring you out. He won’t ever give up on your freedom and you shouldn’t either.
Lay down the pride or pain that has kept the walls in place this long and let Him in to repair your heart and restore your life. You were made for so much more. Call on Him and He will draw nearer to you.
All you have to do is accept Christ as the key to living your best life. What walls have you built up around you? Will you take the step of giving Him permission to start the healing process?
