There are many people we recognize for their greatness. Athletes, performers, artists, scientists, doctors, and so many more.
Praising them as some of the greatest of all time is an honor that many aspire to reach themselves. But what makes a person great? Their skills and talents? Their integrity and ability to draw the attention of others? Maybe it’s all of the above.
The truth is, when you recognize that no one can be greater than God it puts a whole new perspective on things. Worshipping and praising Him above everyone else doesn’t belittle the gifts and talents He has given to each person. It enhances them.
The athlete you idolize is a child of God and has been given all of his or her abilities by an able God. The same is true for all the others we put on pedestals.
God loves them all just as He loves you. He wants you to live with wisdom (that He can provide), righteousness (that comes from Him), and devotion to who He is.
No matter what, put God first and everyone and everything else will fall into place. Who or what has been in competition with God for your devotion, praise, and worship?
