Humble Beginnings

We have all been around someone who makes sure everyone knows how great they are and the great things they do. In reality, we all like to be recognized for doing great things.

If you are to follow Christ’s example, then being humble is the way to go. Jesus was the King of Kings. Royal births are handled with the upmost care with all the details figured out ahead of time.

The only thing is, when God is in control it can be hard to plan not knowing the exact details and timing of how things will go. You can try to control it all, but no matter what unexpected things will happen.

This is what happened with the birth of Jesus. Mary and Joseph were living their lives when God chose them as humble parents to be the birth parents of Christ. Then, they hadn’t planned to travel to the town where his relatives were from—especially not when Mary was nine months pregnant.

Not having a phone to make a reservation ahead of time, they arrived in town and there was no room anywhere for them to sleep for the night. To top it all off, Mary was in labor!

They were offered a barn to stay the night in with the animals and they humbly accepted. Jesus was born that night in humble accommodations. There was no place to lay Him while He slept so Mary placed Him in the food trough that is for the animals.

Jesus was God made flesh, but that night He came into the world with humble beginnings. The angels sang in heaven and the shepherds were made aware of the holy addition. He was from the holiest family line, but did not arrive in a flashy way.

This theme carried on throughout His entire life. He didn’t go around everywhere announcing to everyone who He was—even though He could have bragged about being the Son of God. His humble presence was enough for people to know He was someone special.

When you walk around living a humble life, knowing it’s not about you at all, people will see Christ through you. It is better to live a humble life with Christ than a haughty life without Him.

How does living humbly show Jesus to the world?
