Seekers

In the Christmas story are some important characters including the wise men. We aren't sure how many there were, but many stories and songs outside of the Bible have said there were three kings. The Bible also doesn’t define them as kings either.

When it comes to the true facts about God and Christ, the Bible is still the safest place to get the most accurate information. So they were wise men who were respected for their wisdom. They could have been astronomers, astrologers, or philosophers.

Astrologists in particular are concerned with the movement of the stars and their influence on us. So the wise men got some of their truths from their study of the stars. They also were knowledgable about the Savior who would one day come because of the Scriptures handed down from generation to generation among the Jews.

But why in particular where they interested in finding the newly born King of the Jews? They saw the star in the east which after a few years led them to a young and toddling Jesus at home with His parents.

They knew the bright star in the east the night He was born was of great significance as they may have never seen anything like it before. Keeping with their study of the stars, the wise men knew the star had to have an impact on all of humanity.

To fully realize this, they had to see the significance of the star for themselves. They sought out Jesus until they found Him. You and I can learn from this. Amazing things happen when you never stop seeking Jesus.

The Bible says that if you seek you will find Him. Unlike a game of hide and seek, Jesus is never hiding from us and is always right there for you to find. He not only wants you to always seek Him. He wants to be your first choice and not your last resort.

The wise men could have waiting to go searching for Christ or even stop and give up when it took a couple years, but they had a hunger for the truth. Do you hunger for the truth of Jesus or have you given up seeking Him for one reason or another?
