Shattered Hearts

I keep thinking about how Joseph felt in the whole story of the birth of Jesus. Before he heard from the angel of the Lord, he was trying to pick up the pieces of his broken heart.

Upon hearing the news that the love of his life is pregnant and he knows it’s not his must have shattered, in the matter of a moment, the future he had envisioned with Mary.

He immediately jumped to conclusions when he heard the news. It took an intervention from God to help Joseph see His hand in all of this.

Once the angel explained Mary was indeed with child and it was through the power of the Holy Spirit, he had a choice to make. He could stay with Mary as God asked him to or to bail and take the shame and disgrace others would send his way for how things appeared from the outside.

We do this too don’t we? Something happens in a relationship that causes a rift or falling out and we are given the chance to reconcile what is left or let it go and move on.

Sometimes a relationship is toxic and can be detrimental to your well being. In these instances, reconciliation wouldn’t be the best option. The Bible tells us to guide our hearts. Toxic relationships can wreak havoc on a person in many ways.

In other cases, the whole issue could be a misunderstanding. We are all guilty of jumping to conclusions without speaking to someone directly to clarify the truth.

No matter the cause of your broken heart and the broken relationship, come first to God and ask for discernment on what you should do and the right things to say.

Speak the truth in love as God has told us to do and make the truth known. Only God can restore the shattered pieces of your heart and your life so you can love and be vulnerable again.

Bow humbly at His feet and allow Him to heal you and renew your relationships. How has God shown you the right thing to do with your relationships?
