Compliments and Flattery

Don’t judge a book by its cover. Most are taught this growing up. It’s easy in our society to see a person and think you know them.

We are all guilty of this at times. You see someone and without having met them, you believe things about them that may or may not even be true.

You may exchange a cordial greeting and try to flatter them in some way. Flattery though doesn’t come from the heart. It is a backward compliment, insincere, not always true, and given with you in mind. It makes you feel better to flatter someone with words.

Complimenting is a totally different concept. Giving a compliment to someone else is not to benefit you but instead to feed the soul of the one you’re giving it to.

These kind words to someone else are heartfelt, sincere, and selfless. If you are a Christ follower, it’s the goal to become more like Him with each passing day.

As you become more like Him, you see people how He sees them. He allows you to have compassion an empathy for others—sharing Jesus with all you meet. There is no greater gift to give others than the opportunity to know Jesus Christ.

God knows your heart and the heart of those around you. Your outward appearance and hangups do not deter God from using you. It is your heart that qualifies you to be used by God.

When did you wrongly judge someone by appearance alone and what happened when you did? Ask God to help you have His eyes to see people and have His heart for them.
