What do you fear? We all fear something whether it’s spiders, the dark, or maybe something much deeper. The Bible says we are to fear the Lord and turn away from evil. The phrase “fear the Lord” didn’t used to make sense to me at all until I realized that fear didn’t have to mean something I was afraid of or something that terrified me. He didn’t create us so that we would be afraid of Him. Many times in the Bible people are told, “Do not be afraid!” To fear the Lord means to have profound reverence for and total awe of Him—complete or deep honor and respect. Well, when you put it that way we should all fear the Lord! Holding Him in this high regard is the beginning of wisdom. We realize everything we do is because of Him, made possible by Him, and should be to glorify Him. We gain understanding as we gain spiritual wisdom. When we gain wisdom we see things and people the way He sees them. How has God given you His eyes to see a person or situation differently?
