Do you do all things with excellence? Why not? If you’re thinking “how can I do everything perfectly” then you may be a little confused.
Excellence and perfection are not the same thing. To do everything with perfection means that you will never fail and every little thing that you do will be the best it has ever been done.
Only Christ is the exact example of perfection. You and I are human, naturally flawed. There is no way you can ever be perfect. Let that sink in for a minute. Nothing you can ever do will be perfect. And you know what? That’s all right.
God doesn’t call us to perfectionism. He sent His Son to die for you and for me because we aren’t perfect. He does ask us to live life with excellence.
You are to put forth your best effort in everything you do. Do your job with such greatness that people will wonder what motivates you. Lead your team with such greatness that people will wonder what motivates you. Parent your children with such love and greatness that others will wonder what motivates you.
You know what you’ll be able to tell them when they ask you about your motivation? It gives you an opportunity to tell them about Christ and the difference He makes in your life. You can tell them that you know you aren't perfect, but you aim to do everything the best that you can because He calls you to be your best.
Telling people these things are not so you can boast about what you’ve done, but to point to the One who has helped and allowed you to do it.
How does your motivation change when you know everything you do is for God’s glory and that you don’t have to be perfect because only Christ can fill that role?
