Burning the Candle

We rise early and meet the sun along with everything on our plate for the day. The striving to be productive begins.

You start your day with laser focus to finish all you begin and then some. Efficiency is key and nothing is going to stop you from attaining it.

With every hour that passes you remain keeping yourself busy. Before you know it lunch has come and gone. It’s too late now so you continue to push through, knowing it’ll only be a few more hours.

The evening hours come and it’s time to wind down, but there’s just a few more things to do so you hurry to finish them—only when you’re done the sun is long gone and everyone else has gone to bed.

It takes a lot of effort to burn the candle at both ends. All of this striving to be productive and efficient may have gotten things done, but let me ask you, was it all worth it?

Being efficient isn’t the same as being effective. Efficiency has to do with how you spend your time. Effectiveness is reflective of what you spend your time on.

So what have you spent your time and effort on lately and where has it gotten you? If your main answer is that you’re just tired of being exhausted, take that as a sign.

Even God rested on the seventh day! Jesus often took time out to rest, reflect, and pray. Maybe you don’t feel like you can stop the rushed and hurried pace you’ve become used to living.

If you want to be effective for God then you’ve got to stop being efficient and productive to meet the standards set by the world. This doesn’t mean you should lie around all day and just do things if you feel like it.

Faith without your action doesn’t work. But if you keep your focus on Him and the plans He has for you, He will make sure you get everything done that needs to be done and still have time to rest in Him.

Have you taken the time to step back and rest today?
