Have you ever been fishing? There is a good deal of waiting and timing that takes place. It can be done alone or with a friend or two. It can be relaxing and also exhilarating.
The pursuit and anticipation of what you will catch can bring an adrenaline rush and I believe this is why so many enjoy doing it for fun or even in competition with other fisherman.
When Jesus met some who became His disciples, they were fishermen. He saw their skills both in their labor and in their life. Jesus was able to use all their talents and call them to make difference with a higher purpose.
He will equip you over time for the calling He has planned for you to live out until eternity. You are given the Holy Spirit as a form of God to live inside of you, abide with you, and guide you while you live your life.
All you have to do to receive His Spirit is to accept Christ and choose to live your life for Him and not for your own gain. This is exactly what happened when Jesus called His disciples.
They left what they were doing when He told them they would still fish, but with a higher calling—for men! You might be saying to yourself, “How can you fish for men. That doesn’t make any sense.”
Conceptually it doesn’t make sense. Metaphorically it makes perfect sense. Just like the disciples who walked with Jesus, you too can continue to carry out what He began with them.
If you give your life to Him, He will give it back in the form of eternity with Him in heaven. If you live so that everything you do honors Him and encourages others to live for Him, you are living a life worthy of the calling God has given you.
How is God using you to be an influence for Him in your home, your community, and in your workplace?
