Anxiety is a real epidemic in our society and it shows no favoritism. It can hit any one at any time with very little warning. Some have short fuses while it takes a lot more to push others over the edge.
Whether you call them cares, worries, thoughts, or what ifs, they plague all of us in some way. What are the conditions when you feel anxiety rear its ugly head?
Often times anxiety happens when you worry about things that you cannot control. The thing is though that you and I can feel like we are in control, but ultimately God is the one who is in control.
Whenever you have out of control thoughts, try to trick your mind into focusing on something else besides what is consuming you at that moment.
The biggest time I feel anxious is when I finally get in bed at night and lie there for a few minutes before falling asleep. This is one of the only times when I fully stop physically, but mentally it takes a few extra minutes to shut down.
If I end my night lying there silently praying to God and thanking Him for who He is and what He did for me that day, I find myself slowly releasing the fears I’m holding and the thoughts that started to allow worry to creep in begin to fade.
The first thing we should do is go to God, but it’s often the last thing we think to do. Please know this. Only the comfort of His presence alone can calm us and bring peace to the crazy chaos of our minds.
