See the Good

Most are taught as children to see the good in people. As we’ve grown older we have also taught our own children about the free will we’ve been given. Just as we all have the option to accept Christ, we also have choices to make that can turn us away from the will of God.

God created the whole earth and then created man and said it was very good. He gave man their first choice. He told Adam and Eve to eat from the land except for the tree in the middle. The serpent was sneaky and caused man to sin for the first time.

This created a more difficult life for all of us. We too have a choice. You can either accept Christ and live out His purpose and plan for you or you can live life on your own terms and do the things the world approves of.

I’m not saying to live a life comparing yourself to others. Comparison affects all relationships—even your relationship with God. You can’t fully love others when you’re jealous of them and you can’t love God when you think He hasn’t been fair to you compared to someone else.

God alone is perfectly good. He sent His only Son who remained perfectly good as He walked the earth and even now as He reins on high next to the Father in heaven. God alone can give perfect peace and wholeness—all-around wellness and a life of completeness. He completes us.

Ask Him for His eyes to see the world and the people around you. Be open to seeing the good that is in every human being, just as God did when He created each one of them. Living from this perspective changes the satisfaction you get out of life.

To always live from a place of gratitude try keeping a gratitude journal and write down a few things each day so you’ll always remember that God’s goodness is all around.

Many deal with depression and anxiety, especially around the holidays. Being grateful and showing kindness to others has been medically proven to reduce both of these things. How could noticing His goodness in people and the world around you change the outcome of the holiday season?
